There are several ways themortgage.com protects your private personal and financial information. The security measures we have taken are explained here in three categories. They are Your Computer, The Transmission, and Our Computers. Your Computer When you use themortgage.com all information that you enter into the tools and forms provided remains on your own computer until such time as you select the "Submit Application" button at the end of the mortgage application form. The calculators and qualification processes utilize client-side JavaScript. This means all computation is done on your computer. For example when you use the Mortgage Qualifier and press "Check Your Results", the underwriting criteria of the lenders is downloaded to your computer for processing. Traditionally, your information was sent to a web site's computer for processing and only the results were returned to your computer. Information that you enter into a form can be saved so that you do not have to re-enter this information at a later date. This information is stored in the form of a "cookie" on your computer. A cookie is a small, encrypted text file stored in a preferences folder for use only by your browser. Only our web site can access this information so that you can reload your data into the forms, and even then the information is not sent to us until you decide to submit it. The Transmission In order to enter a mortgage application form, you will need a browser that supports a minimum of 40-bit encryption. We recommend 128-bit encryption, as it is the strongest, most secure form of encryption that is generally available in Internet browsers on the market in North America today. Encryption is a means of scrambling information for transmission, in this case, between your computer and themortgage.com computer systems. When our computers receive your encrypted data, only we can decrypt it. If you have Netscape Navigator, you know your browser is using 40-bit encryption when: the broken key at
the bottom left-hand corner of your screen becomes solid (unbroken). If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can find out if your browser is using 40-bit encryption by: selecting File...Properties...Security from the menu bar of the browser. If you would like to use
a browser that supports 128-bit encryption, please go to www.netscape.com
(we recommend version 7.1) or www.microsoft.com
(we recommend version 6.0 or above) and download their 128-bit browser.
The e-mail features of this web site do not support any security encryption. Our Computers An Internet firewall is used to prevent unauthorized access to themortgage.com computer system from external sources. As its name suggests, the firewall is an industrial-strength combination of hardware and software designed to securely separate the Internet from our internal computer systems and databases. All Internet data travels through a series of safety checkpoints on its way to and from our internal systems so that only authorized messages and transactions enter our computing environment. INVIS Privacy Statement We take every measure to apply the strictest standards of confidentiality to all information that clients share with us. We collect the minimum amount of customer information required to help us deliver superior service to our customers, which includes advising customers about our products, services and other opportunities, and to administer our business.
